Update from Bryan Hillberg in Norway

October 25, 2006

Hey everyone,
Sorry that it’s been a while since my last update.
I have been so busy with everything and have barely enough time to sleep
with my strict schedule. It’s great though and the Lord is stretching me,
using me, shaping me and opening new doors everyday. here are a few things that have been going on since I’ve been here.

Well first off, God is using me in the youth here in Kristiansand. I have led worship many times for U-Turn( youth group). I had extensive teaching on worship with Adam which has really shown me the sacrifice, and obedience involved. It’s been amazing to wake up every day and know that somehow you’ll see God in a new way. The youth are really pressing in towards God and we have a WorkHouse (camp) coming up beginning of November. This will be a great time for the Lord to speak into the lives of the youth here in this church. Please be praying that this will occur and that they will begin to let their image in material things die and that they would
place their identity in Christ 100%!
Every week I have the opportunity to serve in the Salvation Army here in town. It is primarily ran by older people in their late 70’s through late 80’s. They are relentless and are a huge encouragement to me that you are never to old to serve and be on fire for God. Anos (I might have misspelled it), is a sweet old man who plays old hymns on the piano, completely loves
the Lord and a man whom I’ve had many great conversations with about the lost people in this city and how to reach them. Two of the men who come to the Salvation Army have recently begun to open up to me. They are both very intelligent and have traveled the world, but are very worldly in their thinking. They acknowledge Jesus, but don’t believe he’s the Son of God and that God is real. I visited one of the men at his home today. His name is Harald and was at one time the champion boxer in all of Norway. His house was littered with artifacts and treasures from Chile, Argentina, the Congo, India, Italy, Russia, African pygmies, Norway, and so many other places. HE desperately needs the LOVE of God. his view of love is all screwed up and I desperately want him to experience the complete and unconditional, pure love of God. Keep him in prayer. God is already working in him. I will try to meet with him weekly.

There’s been loads of great things I’ve been able to be apart of, like Norwegian cooking classes, language classes, Futball with the kids in Justvik (where I live), a salsa dance party at church (Norwegians should never salsa, hahhaha), serving in the church through cleaning and working, visiting with church members for diner, deep sea fishing, Sunday service worship team, college group meetings, and sooo much more!

I love you all sooo much and it is so difficult to relay everything that has occurred here. All I know is that I never expected this. I am being completely tossed out of my comfort zone into the icy Norwegian waters, and I have let God take me wherever He wants me to go. I am BLESSED to be here and I love you all for your support, prayers, encouraging words, and relationships with me.

Please keep in prayer the things I had asked. I would love to here from anyone who has anything to say. hahahha. It does get a little lonely. Again, I love you all!!! My email address is spicychickenburrito@hotmail.com

Blessings in Christ,
Bryan Hillberg

Update from Bryan Hillberg in Norway

October 11, 2006

Another place I have seen God working here is in my language class. Every person in that class is either fleeing to Norway because of war or life threatening conflict or because they cant live safely in their town anymore. Most of the people are also of the Muslim belief. I met a young guy named Ali who is from Yemen and we have just been starting to talk through Norwegian and find out stuff about each other. I invited him to church, but we will see. Also, I met a man named John Shyaka from Rwanda. He is very forward in everything that he says and does, so we have a lot of laughs about that. He speaks English and we had talked about why we were here. He had to leave Rwanda because of a lot of conflict in his town and his life was in danger. After I explained why I was here he had many questions. To make it short we are going to have coffee this week and I am taking him to church this Sunday, which he is very excited about.

Message From Bryan Hillberg in Norway

October 6, 2006
From Bryan Hillber…

Hey everyone! i am thankful to hear that all of you have been in prayer for what God has his hand on hear in Norway! so far I have mainly been doing A LOT of practical work. I have washed decks, cleaned houses, helped people move from their houses, I learned how to make spaghetti, bake bread, gut fish, make stew and fish cakes( don’t get any ideas!) also, i have assisted Adam in worship for U-Turn which is Kristiansand Foursquares youth group. I will be leading worship for them, this Friday because Adam will be in Estonia. i will be sharing my testimony with them of God’s calling on my life to missions. Sunday i will play on the worship team both services which will be awesome! I will attend language classes every Monday and Tuesday. also Tuesdays I will be serving people through Kristiansand’s salvation army. I have met some wonderful people through this organization. Just know that I have been kept busy, and I have barely enough time to look around!(or breath..) i love it though and God is Definitely got a plan, and it is starting to become more apparent with the relations he is placing in my life. as i continue in serving, i would appreciate your prayers in these areas: 1. That people would begin to be bold and step out in the church, even if they are noticed for it. 2. That i would have the strength to do what is needed each and every day 3. That the students in U-Turn would begin to invite friends and not be ashamed and 4. Dagfinn’s salvation( Mom, if you could have the family pray for this one) serving for Christ, Bryan Hillberg
